The library, founded in 1895, said the financiap gap, aggravated by stagnant or slashedgovernmentt funding, may require cuts in services and locations. President and Director Barbaraz Mistick said in a statement that the library is takinga “proactive approach,” paring expenses and seeking publivc input and support through three town hall details of which will be announced within the next week. “Ww are reviewing every possible action we can take to realizre a lowercost structure, including assessing people, programss and places within our system in a manner that protectse the high quality of our services,” Mistico said.
Changes will be recommendedf tothe library’s board by September and will begin to be implementedx for the 2010 budget year. Board Chair Jacquki Fiske Lazo said in a statement that thelibrary system’s majore sources of funding are compromised. Commitments from the Allegheny County Regional Asset District and state governmenr are expected to be flator reduced.
